Years ago, in a former house that my family had lived in, there was poltergeist activity in the house behind ours. 

Apparently, the story has it, there was this couple and a baby living in the house behind ours. One night, the parents were in the living room watching TV on the sofa and the baby was upstairs sleeping in the cot. 

At some point during the evening, the parents were alarmed to hear the baby crying through the baby monitor.

 So, of course, the parents went running upstairs to tend to the baby, only to find that the baby was fast asleep and was not crying, yet, they clearly heard crying on the baby monitor only moments before. 

The strangest part of this story was a few years later. 

Apparently, one day, the young child was playing in the bathtub with a little red boat toy. Apparently, the parents were forewarned not to let a child play with a red boat in the bathtub, but, of course, the parents didn't think anything of it.

 Then, the strangest thing happened. Apparently, the decorative china dishes on the wall downstairs were spinning by themselves and objects were being levitated and thrown across the rooms. 

This terrified the parents, so they called in a priest to perform an Exorcism. The Exorcism was successful in ridding of the entity. 

However, the parents never found out why the red boat in the bathtub triggered such an event.

I find the Waverly Hills Sanatorium one of the most interesting haunted places out there! From a documentary I have watched and from all that I have read and heard about Waverly Hills gives me the chills, and I love getting the chills from something really spooky...I want to go there so bad..Maybe one day I will go on one of the Waverly Hills Sanatorium Haunted/Historical tours...It would be amazing....I just love the thrill I get when I experience something spooky and I bet the Waverly Hills Sanatorium would be a wicked thrill for me!! THE HISTORY OF THE WAVERLY HILLS SANATORIUM

"During the 1800s and early 1900s, America was ravaged by a deadly disease known by many as the “white death” --- tuberculosis. This terrifying and very contagious plague, for which no cure existed, claimed entire families and sometimes entire towns. In 1900, Louisville, Kentucky had one of the highest tuberculosis death rates in America. Built on low, swampland, the area was the perfect breeding ground for disease and in 1910, a hospital was constructed on a windswept hill in southern Jefferson County that had been designed to combat the horrific disease. The hospital quickly became overcrowded though and with donations of money and land, a new hospital was started in 1924." 

"The new structure, known as Waverly Hills, opened two years later in 1926. It was considered the most advanced tuberculosis sanatorium in the country but even then, most of the patients succumbed to the disease. In those days before medicine was available to treat the disease, it was thought that the best treatment for tuberculosis was fresh air, plenty of nutritious food and lots of rest. Many patients survived their stay at Waverly Hills but it is estimated that hundreds died here at the height of the epidemic."

TREATMENT AT WAVERLY HILLS SANATORIUM

"In many cases, the treatments for the disease were as bad as the disease itself. Some of the experiments that were conducted in search of a cure seem barbaric by today’s standards but others are now common practice. Patient’s lungs were exposed to ultraviolet light to try and stop the spread of bacteria. This was done in “sun rooms”, using artificial light in place of sunlight, or on the roof or open porches of the hospital. Since fresh air was thought to also be a possible cure, patients were often placed in front of huge windows or on the open porches, no matter what the season. Old photographs show patients lounging in chairs, taking in the fresh air, while literally covered with snow."

"Other treatments were less pleasant --- and much bloodier. Balloons would be surgically implanted in the lungs and then filled with air to expand them. Needless to say, this often had disastrous results, as did operations where muscles and ribs were removed from a patient’s chest to allow the lungs to expand further and let in more oxygen. This blood-soaked procedure was seen as a “last resort” and few of the patients survived it."

"Some of the more brutal treatments were reserved for the operating room. The Phrenicotomy, otherwise known as the phrenic nerve crush, was when the nerve to the diaphragm was crushed, thereby paralyzing the diaphragm and lessening the movement and capacity of that lung in a vain attempt to heal it. Thoracoplasty was a surgical procedure wherein up to nine ribs were removed in a wasted effort to ease the restrictions of the infected lungs. It is easy to see how the death tolls from Waverly Hills have been estimated at up to 63,000, although these numbers are in dispute. A tunnel, originally used to pump steam heat from the boilers at the bottom of the hill to the main building, eventually became known as “the body chute.” Feeling that the mental health of their patients was just as important as their physical well being, the staff of the facility chose to transport the dead out of the building down this 525 foot tunnel to the waiting hearses."

If the weather was not favorable for a patient to be let outside of the most haunted location, they would receive treatment from sunlamps. It was believed at the time that the sun acted as what many medical professionals call a “Bactericide”, which means that the substances that caused the disease would be killed off. Additionally, the warmth from the sun was believed to be detrimental to the microorganisms that sickened the patient. The patients also received a wide array of fresh meats, produce and vegetation in order to strengthen their immune systems while being cared for at Waverly Hills Sanatorium."

THE FLOORS

"Still located on the first floor of the building is the lobby, solarium and patient rooms, offices, medical labs, x-ray and dark room, a nurses station, a salon/barber shop, a dentist office, a library, the breaker and transformer rooms, cold rooms for meat and other food storage, an old electric/stone/water potato peeler (many believe it to be a meat grinder, its not), maintenance offices with a light indication system to let workers know if a cooler or transformer went out and needed repair, the north wing morgue."

"On the second floor north wing is the kitchen area. This kitchen had the capacity and equipment to feed 500 people and a ventilation system that could completely change the air temperature every three minutes. Also on this wing were the bakery and the dining rooms. Serving 2,100 meals daily, the main cafeteria had the capacity to seat 328 employees and/or patients at one sitting and could be expanded to seat 448. One minor surgery/treatment room was located on the second floor as were a chapel, solarium and patient rooms, one kitchenette, one dinette, and two nurses stations." 

"Occupational therapy was held on the third floor, but otherwise it was basically the same as the others with one minor surgery/treatment room, solarium and patient rooms, one kitchenette, one dinette, and two nurses stations." 

"On the fourth floor, which many report to be the most haunted, were major surgery and the recovery rooms. Also located here was a waiting room, one minor surgery/treatment room, solarium and patient rooms, one kitchenette, one dinette, and two nurses stations." 

"What is referred to as the fifth floor is really just a few offices and some rooftop space. It was reserved for the heliotherapy department that treated TB of the bone with sunlight. Children with this disease had a swing set to play on while they received treatment. In these offices there was a very small nurses station and a kitchenette." 

"In the basement of the building there are elevator maintenance, access for the laundry building, crawl spaces for pipe maintenance, and an unidentified room containing a fire door."

"THE DEATH TUNNEL" OR "BODY CHUTE"

Originally, this was built as nothing more than an underground tunnel to ship coal and food/produce up the hill to the hospital more efficiently.      My name is Carm and I do have abilities. During a tuff time in my life when I was going through a divorce, I moved in with my friend Danny. Dan was on vacation when I settled in. my first week in the house I kept hearing tapping noises. And this one time when I went to the bathroom I knew I had placed the television remote on the table. When I got back the remote was missing and I looked all over for it. Something clicked in my head and at the time I wasn't quite sure but I said out loud  "Ok, you have made yourself known but I would love to watch my programs in peace. Can you put it on the stove in the kitchen?" I do have experience and I knew they wouldn't place it in front of me.

 Magic with ghosts usually happens in a secret kinda way. But I kinda felt funny and didn't expect this to happen. Going into the kitchen there was my remote directly in the middle on top. 

Another thing I have learned is a ghost will place your missing object directly in the middle of plain view. In past I had a lighter missing in another house and just like that it was in center of       the stove. 

This was at my friends house and he was a  witness to this. This is also where I got the idea of placing my remote on the stove. Plus the kitchen was in another room and it could place the remote on stove in secret...so now I'm astonished to see the remote on the stove.

I was proud of myself for being aware of what was going on. I was not scared for some reason and I started talking to it challenging it to move other things like a chair but nothing else happened. The next day I called my best friend John and told him what had happened and that I challenged it to move the chair but nothing happened. My friend said that probably was way to big an object and I was mad at myself for not realizing that. We talked that smaller objects would be better and just as we were saying this an unlit small tea candle that was in small glass slid across the tv onto the floor!

 I was smiling but stunned and said  "Oh my god, John, the candle just slid off the tv!" He told me to check if it wasn't on correctly or if there was some possible way it could have slid off. But we couldn't debunk it...so for a couple days I was very friendly and would talk out loud..

I also wondered if my friend Danny,  had known there was a ghost in the house. The night he got home from his trip I met him at the door and I must have had a crazy look on my face because he started laughing and said: "I see you must have met the ghost?" This was more validation for me. We laughed and he told me some stories but I didn't like his stories. 

In this one story he said that the ghost was scratching it's nails on the bedroom wall. So now I know its a girl ghost. A couple months have gone by now and I am still talking, sometimes, to our girl ghost. She got brave enough that I could see her shadow.

 One thing that is amazing is shadow people can move lighting fast. But now on this hot summer night. I went to bed and put over me a very thin sheet and started to go to sleep. I was still in a lot of pain over my divorce and was laying there thinking of things trying to go to sleep,when all of a sudden my sheet ripped off of me! I was stunned and pissed and I yelled out but in terror, "THAT'S NOT NICE!!" I woke up my friend and he sternly told me " See, stop talking to it".  He was absolutely right...

This particular story starts to go bad.

My friend and I moved out of the apartment and I'm now living upstairs from parents house. Toward the end months living there I was terrified and I've learned big lesson.

 One lesson is to not talk to much to them and don't trust them.

The Myrtles Plantation

Alcatraz National Park

The Bell Witch

Bobby Mackey's Music World

"Apparently, a small satanic group made up of local residents gathered at the empty building, managing to practice their rituals in secret. However, they were exposed in 1896 during one of the most spectacular murder trials ever held in northeast Kentucky. It was so large that tickets were sold to the hearing and more than 5,000 people stood outside the Newport, Kentucky courthouse for information about what was taking place inside. The trial, and the murder that spawned it, has become an integral part of Bobby Mackey’s haunted history. Finally, the building was turned into the popular bar and dance club that it is today."

"Pearl’s body was found about two hundred feet off the Alexandria Turnpike and less than two miles from the abandoned slaughterhouse. As her head was nowhere to be found, Pearl was identified by her shoes. They bore the imprint of Louis and Hays, a Greencastle shoe company that was able to confirm that they had been sold to Pearl Bryan. During the trial that followed, Walling testified that it had been Jackson’s idea to cut Pearl up and distribute her body in the Cincinnati sewers. Only the head was taken, for which Jackson apparently had other uses. Pearl’s luxurious blond hair was later found in a valise in Jackson’s room."

"Pearl’s head was never found and legend has it that it was used during a satanic ritual at the slaughterhouse. It was then dumped into the well of blood and was lost. Jackson and Walling were brought to trial in 1897 and were quickly found guilty and sentenced to death. William Wood was later arrested and charged as an accomplice. Charges against him were dropped when he agreed to testify against the other two men. According to reports, Jackson and Walling were both offered life sentences instead of execution if they would reveal the location of Pearl’s head. Both men refused. They went to the gallows behind the courthouse in Newport on March 21, 1897. It was the last public hanging in Campbell County."

Bobby and Janet Mackey purchased the building in the spring of 1978 with the intention of turning it into a country bar. Mackey was a well-known as a singer in northern Kentucky and had recorded several albums. He actually scrapped his plans to record in Nashville in order to renovate the old tavern. Once the bar was opened up, it immediately began to attract a crowd."

"After the death of Charles Lemp, the mansion was sold and turned into a boarding house. Shortly after that, it fell on hard times and began to deteriorate, along with the nearby neighborhood. "The decline of the house continued until 1975, when Dick Pointer and his family purchased it. The Pointer's began remodeling and renovating the place, working for many years to turn it into a restaurant and an inn. But the Pointer's were soon to find out that they were not alone in the house..".

"The bulk of the remodeling was done in the 1970s and during this time, workers reported strange things happening in the house, leading many to believe the place was haunted. Reports often varied between feelings of being watched, vanishing tools and strange sounds. Many of the workers actually left the job site and never came back."

"Since the restaurant has opened, staff members also have had their own odd experiences. Glasses have been seen to lift off the bar and fly through the air; sounds are often heard that do not have explanation and some have even glimpsed actual apparitions who appear and vanish at will. In addition, many customers and visitors to the house report some pretty weird incidents. It is said that doors lock and unlock on their own; the piano in the bar plays by itself; voices and sounds come from nowhere; and even the spirit of the "Lavender Lady" has been spotted on occasion."

"The house has also attracted ghost hunters from around the country, who have come partly due to a November 1980 LIFE magazine article, which named the Lemp Mansion as "one of the most haunted houses in America". It remains a popular place for dinner and spirits today."

"The current owner of the house, Paul Pointer, maintains the place as a wonderful eating and lodging establishment and takes the ghosts as just another part of the strange mansion. "People come here expecting to experience weird things," he said, " and fortunately for us, they are rarely disappointed.""
